Inland Elite Dairy Network
– Forbes & Wagga Wagga
Role/Purpose
There is a need to link between Dairy NSW and the practicing dairy farmer in these geographic areas, dairy farmers have a very structured and repetitive lifestyle that does not allow them the latitude to be kept up to date with the ongoing developments within the industry. The IEDN is the link between Dairy NSW and dairy farmers.
Geographic Area
The IEDN covers two separate inland farming regions of NSW. In the Forbes region dairy farms are generally located along the river basin from Cowra to Condobolin. Whilst dairy farms in the inland south of state are located in the surrounds (30km) of Wagga Wagga as well as the Tumut area.
Activities
The activities of the Groups are to have regular meetings on topics that are of specific interest at the time [eg silage making in the spring] and they bring in quality speakers to talk to them. We have a special relationship with Charles Sturt University who are very keen to work with the Group again supplying quality speakers for on farm meetings.
As a group we also run several projects on farm eg forage variety trial at Forbes comparing feed quality and quantity. We are presently running a compost trial at Wagga Wagga in conjunction with Charles Sturt University and have received considerable financial support from CMA and Dairy NSW. The Group also has organised bus trips around the district as well as a study tour to New Zealand.
The Group meetings are also an important part of the dairy farmers networking and social events, normally twice yearly and are essential to the success of the Group.
